Some destinations stay under the radar for years. Then a few new hotels open, the experience starts to elevate, and suddenly everyone is paying attention. Our advice? Go before that happens. Right now, these are the places we’re watching closely: Puglia, Italy: White villages, olive groves, and a coastline that still feels relaxed compared to the Amalfi Coast. Four Seasons is set to open a major beachfront resort here, and other luxury brands are beginning to follow. Okinawa: Japan’s subtropical island chain feels completely different from Tokyo or Kyoto. Clear water, island culture, and a slower pace. Luxury brands like Rosewood and other high-end resorts are expanding across the islands, bringing a new level of accommodation to the region. Laos: Often described as the quieter side of Southeast Asia, Laos offers Buddhist temples, riverside towns like Luang Prabang, and a slower, more immersive pace. Luxury hotels are beginning to reinvest in the destination, with Aman and other boutique operators elevating the experience without changing its character. These places will not stay under the radar forever. Experiencing them now is part of the magic. If clients ask us for a Riviera Maya resort that checks almost every box, we usually point them to Fairmont Mayakoba. Why? It solves a lot of the things travelers worry about with big beach resorts. First, space. The resort spreads across a protected mangrove reserve, so you’re never surrounded by rows of buildings or packed pool decks. Second, variety. Guests can play El Camaleón, the Greg Norman–designed golf course that has hosted PGA Tour events, take boats out through the lagoons, or hike nature trails through the mangroves. Then there’s the Mayakoba advantage. Staying here means access to the entire Mayakoba complex, including additional restaurants, beach clubs, and boat experiences across the reserve. If Mexico is on your list this year, this is a stay worth considering. One thing many travelers don’t realize about Victoria Falls: you can combine the falls with a safari in the same stay. This is one of the best places to do it. Anantara Stanley & Livingstone is located inside a private wildlife reserve just outside Victoria Falls National Park. That means you can visit the falls in the morning, then return for game drives through the reserve later in the day. Wildlife here includes giraffes, zebras, antelope, and one of Zimbabwe’s only protected populations of black rhinos. The lodge itself features a small collection of suites arranged around gardens and a central pool. Advisor insight: many of our clients combine this stay with a Botswana safari or a few nights in Cape Town to round out the itinerary. Africa trips often become once-in-a-lifetime journeys.
